What it checks
Every night Insights looks at yesterday's till records for each cashier and compares them with that same cashier's last eight weeks.
It raises an alert when a day is far outside the cashier's own normal pattern and there is a real event behind it. There are five kinds: Unusual number of voids, Unusual number of refunds, Unusually large refunds, Unusually deep discounts, and Cash short at shift close.
An alert is a question to ask, not a verdict. There is often a good reason, such as a busy day, a faulty scanner or a price error.
Reading an alert
Open Insights → Loss prevention. Each open alert shows the Day, the Cashier and What happened, with the numbers, for example how many voids against how many receipts, and the cashier's usual rate.
Severity is High or Medium. Under it you see how far the day is from the cashier's usual range, and over how many days that usual range was measured.
Receipts lists the receipt numbers behind the alert, so you can look them up under Point of sale.
Deal with an alert
- Look up the receipts and talk to the cashier.
- Press Mark reviewed if you checked it, or Dismiss if it is not a concern.
- In the Note box, write what you found. The note is kept with the alert for the audit trail.
- Press Mark reviewed (or Dismiss) in the window to save. The alert leaves the open list.
If the page says "No open alerts", nobody's day looked unusual. Alerts for a new cashier become more reliable after a few weeks of their own history.
