Discounts and price changes

Give a discount on a line or on the whole order, change a unit price, and how the discount limit per role works.

Who can do this: Staff whose role has the Give discounts permission, up to their role's discount limit

Who can give discounts

Discounts depend on the role of the person at the till. A role needs the Give discounts permission to give any discount at all. The role's Discount limit (%) then sets how much: the total of all discounts on one sale, as a percentage of the sale before discounts. A blank limit means no cap.

An owner or administrator sets the limit on each role under Settings → Roles. Out of the box, the TenantAdmin and StoreManager roles can discount; the Cashier role cannot.

If a cashier has switched in with their PIN, the till uses that cashier's limit, not the limit of the person who signed in.

Discount one line

The cart line then shows the discount as a minus amount after the price.

  1. Tap the line in the cart.
  2. Tap Discount.
  3. Type the amount to take off this line, in money (not a percentage).
  4. Check the Line total under the number and tap Done.

Change the price of a line

When the new price is lower than the list price, the line shows the old price as was LKR … . A lower price counts as a discount towards the limit, the same as a line discount.

  1. Tap the line in the cart.
  2. Tap Price. The label shows the list price for comparison.
  3. Type the new unit price and tap Done.

Discount the whole order

  1. Under the cart, find Order discount.
  2. Type the amount to take off the whole order.
  3. Check the Total, then tap Pay.

When a discount is over the limit

If the discounts on a sale add up to more than the allowed percentage, a message appears above the Pay button, for example Discount of 12.5% exceeds your limit of 10%. Reduce it or switch to a manager. The Pay button stays off until the discount is within the limit.

To fix it, lower the discount, or let a manager switch in with their PIN (see Switching cashier with a PIN) and complete the sale under their name.

If the person at the till has no discount right, the Discount and Price buttons are greyed out with the note Needs the discount right, and the Order discount field is not shown.

The server checks the same rule when the sale arrives, so the limit cannot be worked around on the device.
